Yoga Education and Experience

My yoga journey has been continuing since around 1995 and has taken many twists and turns, with everything from the Sivananda Ashram experience to power yoga on the beaches of Mexico.  As a teacher and a student, I’ve settled somewhere in between.  I’m a bit of a purist on alignment due to my background in chiropractic and my classes focus on alignment, breath and strength as well as finding ease and balance in each pose.  I’ve developed a slow flow vinyasa style of teaching that’s easily modified, depending on the needs of each class and/or student.  My in-depth knowledge and experience of body mechanics, along with Thai Yoga bodywork training makes for a powerful yoga class as well as an amazing private yoga therapy session.

Teaching and Retreats
My skills are best utilized in a retreat atmosphere, leading others thru a powerful yoga class to open the heart and strengthen the body.  I am gifted at holding space for others as they change and grow both physically and spiritually.

2015  –  Casa Delfin, Troncones, Mexico  –  co-hosted a yoga and writing retreat.  Each day involved a yoga class, a writing exercise and group activity.

Present Moment Yoga

2012 to 2014  –  Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center, Patagonia, AZ   –  daily yoga classes for guests as a part of a wellness, purification and fasting program.  This was on an “as needed” basis when I was visiting the area.

2011  –  Present Moment Yoga Retreat, Troncones, Mexico  –  taught 2 hour morning vinyasa class, afternoon 90 minute restorative classes and led meditation.  Offered spa services to guests including chiropractic, acupuncture and massage.  Assisted with guest hospitality and restaurant duties.

2010  –  Tulum, Mexico  –  helped facilitate building of a yoga/education center from the ground up.  Literally, building the yurt sleeping structures, helping to integrate the off-grid generator system, and later facilitating yoga retreats by offering yoga classes, body work and helping with general day to day operations.

2009  –  Devanadi Yoga Instructor  –  beginning yoga and intermediate flow

2008  –  200 hour yoga teacher training  –  Yoga Center of Minneapolis  –  foundations in vinyasa and ashtanga

2006  –  Samasati Nature Retreat, Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica  –  assisted in daily operations at the yoga center: front desk operations, booking tours, hospitality and guest services

2005  –  yoga instructor – Holis Wellness Spa, Manuel Antonia, Costa Rica

2004  –  Sivananda Yoga Ashram, Nassau, Bahamas –  experienced ashram life as an extended guest.

2002/2003  –  Pura Vida Yoga Retreat, Alajuela, Costa Rica  –  Attended 2 retreats.  I got a bit addicted to the beautiful, heart opening, mind expanding and life changing experiences of attending a yoga retreat. This was where I reached my epiphany and began to really change my life and follow my heart.

2002  –   YogaFit Teacher Training.  Modules 1-3

2001  –  White Lotus Retreat Center, Santa Barbara, CA.  3 week study course in Thai Yoga Bodywork with Saul David Raye.  Received certification in Thai Yoga bodywork

2000  –  Maya Tulum Yoga Retreat  –  My introduction to power yoga, ashtanga and Thai Yoga Body Work.  I attended two yoga immersion retreats. Suddha Weixler, Ashtanga instructor, Chicago, IL and Power Yoga with Nadia Jenkins

1996  –  Shivananda Yoga Center, upstate New York  –  My introduction to yoga was 2 weeks at an ashram.  I learned the importance of meditation and mindfulness.  Hatha provides a great structure to class and is still the foundation of my classes today.

2000  –  Feng Shui Certification with Carole Hyder, Minneapolis, MN  –  Carole Hyder is a leading Feng Shui expert. This course was an intensive year long, in-depth course on Feng Shui for the home, the spirit and our external surroundings.  I use it in my daily life to help keep energy flowing and create a clear path.

1998  –  Mindfulness Meditation Course  –  Minneapolis Zen Center  –  My first introduction to meditation and it’s powerful benefits.  I’ve continued to study and practice various forms of meditation.
